Jed I. Knight, SASS #36423

History of the
Persona:
Born Jedediah I. Knight in
1840, along the OR. Trail.
Jed I. Knight’s family moved to San Francisco in 1849, hoping like others,
to strike it rich during the gold rush. It was in San Francisco that his
father was gunned down in ’52, by a claim jumper. His father was laid to
rest shortly before his 13th birthday. Jed took his father’s single shot
muzzle loading rifle and hunted down the claim jumper. After confronting
the killer, Jed shot him and took his weapons. The killer carried a pair
of ’51 Navies. Fearing repercussions from the outlaw’s friends, Jed
decided it would be best to leave that part of the country for a while. He
said goodbye to his mother and headed north.
Not much was heard from or about Jedediah Knight during this period of his
life, although some speculate he lived amongst the Indians during much of
this period. There are also stories of Jed having ridden the outlaw trail,
robbing and pillaging for a living. There are numerous accounts of him
frequenting saloons and while not much for gambling he was said to have
spent a lot of time and money in the brothels.
Jed worked odd jobs in the Northern California – Southern Oregon area
(known as the State of Jefferson). It is here that he began to settle
down...
Jed rode with many posses, making a name for himself by tracking down
outlaws (knowing their trails from having ridden them himself not many
years before). Eventually he became a lawman…
(Course now there are some who claim Jed I. Knight was some sort of a time
traveler… but that’s a story for another time…)

Last Thoughts:
SASS and CAS have added such a wonderful
dimension to my life. I have always been intrigued by the Wild West
and this gives me a chance to play out some of those fantasies. My
grandparents were a huge influence on my love of the west.
